TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

TRAVELER INFORMATION FORM: All mission participants must fill out this traveler information form.

HOTELS: A block of discounted rooms has been reserved at the Courtyard Sandton, Protea Hotel Umhlanga and the City Lodge V&A Waterfront. More information on hotels can be found here.

FLIGHTS: Mission participants will need to secure their own flight arrangements for the mission. Due to logistical complications, CGLG cannot obtain a discounted group rate. It is suggested that participants book flights through a travel agent or by booking on the web. We have provided recommendations for "Group" internal flights. More information on flights can be found here.

VISAS: A visa is not needed to enter South Africa.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS

A block of discounted rooms has been reserved at the Courtyard Sandton, Protea Hotel Umhlanga and the City Lodge V&A Waterfront. The Council of Great Lakes Governors (CGLG) and Macit Travel will assist mission participants in securing hotel reservations. Click HERE to make reservations using our traveler information form. International Flights: It is normally less expensive to fly via Europe or the Middle East rather than a direct South African Airways flight from NY JFK, Washington Dulles or Atlanta. Please note that it will take 2 days to get to South Africa if you choose to fly via Europe or the Middle East.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Mission participants do not need a visa to enter South Africa.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

CGLG representatives in South Africa will arrange airport to hotel transportation for those arriving on Tuesday, February 22, in Johannesburg.  Mission participants will be met after they have cleared customs.

On Friday, February 25, ground transportation from the Johannesburg hotel to the Johannesburg airport will be provided for mission participants who are scheduled on South African Airways Flt 1611 departing Johannesburg at 5:20 p.m. to Richards Bay. Mission participants not on the above-mentioned flight will be responsible for their own transportation.

On Tuesday, March 1, ground transportation from the Durban hotel to the Durban airport will be provided for mission participants who are scheduled on South African Airways Flt 7957departing Durban at 5:40 p.m. to Cape Town. Transportation will be waiting in Cape Town to transport the group to the hotel. Mission participants not on the above-mentioned flight will be responsible for their own transportation.

There will be one trip made to the Cape Town airport on Friday, March 4. A specific departure time will be determined upon review of flight schedules. 

TRAVEL TO BUSINESS APPOINTMENTS

Each participant will receive instructions on the location of individual business appointments, the distance to those appointments from the hotel and the best mode of transport to travel to the appointment. Cost of travel to the meetings will be the responsibility of the individual participant.

 

 

OPTIONAL SAFARI & GAME WEEKEND

Mission participants may participate in an optional safari from Friday, February 25-Sunday, February 27. The group will stay at the Hilltop Camp in the Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Those not wishing to participate in the optional safari may rejoin the group directly in Durban. Costing for the safari will begin when participants arrive in Richards Bay.

WEEKEND ITINERARY

Friday, February 25, 2011
Group arrives at Richards Bay Airport and is transfered to Hilltop Camp by JULNIC tours.

Saturday, Febrary 26, 2011
After breakfast, group departs for a full day open vehicle "Big 5" safari in the oldest game reserve in South Africa. The reserve is host to the "Big 5" which includes lions, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. The area is also renowned for its exceptional birding.

Sunday, February 27, 2011
After breakfast, the group departs to explore St. Lucia and enjoy a 2 hour cruise on Lake St. Lucia, one of South Africa's 8 World Heritage sites. Crocodiles and hippos can be viewed in their natural habitat. After a light lunch (included) the group departs on an open vehicle visit to Cape Vidal. Cape Vidal falls within the St. Lucia Marine Reserve and is situated north-east of St. Lucia. It has the best of both worlds with access to the eastern shores of St. Lucia where there is a variety of game including reedbuck, antelope, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, spectacular water forest and grassland animals and the Indian Ocean shoreline with its startling array of marine animals. The group will then be transported to the Protea Hotel Umhlanga, Durban.

Includes: Transport from Richards Bay to Hilltop Camp; full day open vehicle safari in Hluhluwe with lunch; half day open vehicle safari in Cape Vidal with lunch; St Lucia boat cruise and transport from Hilltop Camp via St Lucia to Durban.

Cost of JULNIC Tour: R2600 (Approx. $376 based on October 2010 exchange rate)

HILLTOP CAMP - HLUHLUWE, SOUTH AFRICA
Single bedroom in a 2 bedroom chalet (chalet will be shared with another mission participant): R1180 (Approx. $171 based on October, 2010 exchange rate)
Double bedroom in a 2 bedroom chalet (chalet will be shared with another mission participant): R2360 (Approx. $343 October, 2010 exchange rate)

Room rates include breakfast, VAT, tourism levy and one game drive (in addition to the drive provided by JULNIC).

Those not wishing to participate in the optional safari may rejoin the group directly in Durban.
