David Naftzger, Executive Director
David joined the Council of Great Lakes Governors in January of 2002 and currently serves as Executive Director. Previously, David was the director of the agriculture and international trade committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) in Washington, D.C. He represented the legislatures of the nation's states, territories, and commonwealths before Congress and the Administration on issues including international trade and investment agreements, land use and economic development. Prior to his work with NCSL's agriculture and international trade committee, David worked with NCSL's law and justice committee and the international programs department. He also interned with the United Nations Association/National Capital Area and in the Washington, D.C. office of United States Senator Alan Dixon.
David earned a Master of Science degree from the London School
of Economics in the Government department. He holds a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Political Science from DePauw University and studied
at Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany.
